Last weekend marked my first NASCAR Race experience - and I am hooked!

There is a funny story behind this picture. The big guy in the blue on the left is our friend, Tom. He wasn't supposed to be in this photo. A few seconds before I took this photo, he snuck under the rope...and a few seconds after I took this photo, the official photographer said, "Dude, get out of the picture." It was the funniest moment of the day...but we had just enough time to get the money shot!

Balloon Days

I visited Creston this weekend as they were celebrating their Balloon Days weekend, and my sister and brother-in-law talked me into waking up early enough to watch the hot air balloons make a trip across the the sky. (well, actually, they bribed me with donuts)...but when we got to the airport to watch the balloons, I was in such awe, I couldn't believe that I had never watched this display before...I encourage anyone in the area to do so...Here are just a few of the balloons as they began the ascent:

Here a balloon dropped low enough to skim the water on the lake...

Labor Day Weekend

What an awesome weekend that I had! Not only did I get to ride on the back of a motorcycle and enjoy some cold beers (not at the same time of course) ...but I was also witness to the invention of a new sport! (I can't tell you any details...because I don't want to spoil it before I get the photos up)...but let me tell you, you will not be disappointed! ...basically it boiled down to rednecks with too much time on their hands!

I think that I could move to Kentucky. The countryside is beautiful and I can't wait to go back and visit someday. All the barns in Kentucky are black..they look really cool:
We visited the Historic Carnton Plantation (www.carnton.org) ...a home that was turned into a Confederate field hospital during the Civil War. There is a book based on the history of the plantation called "Widow of the South"...I had read it prior to our visit and the author of the book was visiting the plantation the day that we were there and I got to shake his hand...very cool.

Nashville Flower

This is one of the coolest flowers that I have ever seen! Cody picked it for me while we were on our trip to Nashville...Anyone know what it is?

Maker's Mark Distillery

What is this vat of sludge you might ask? My husband calls it "Liquid Gold." You are witnessing a birth here my friends....the birth of a bottle of Maker's Mark Whiskey...a drink so cherished by my better half, that we visited the distillery on our honeymoon!

Here is the firehouse on the Maker's Mark property...of course fires used to be a major concern for whiskey bottlers, so to have your own fire engine on the property was necessity!

Maker's Mark is famous for their "rednecks"...no joke. The neck of every bottle is dipped in red wax. Here Cody holds a block of the wax.

There is a science to the distillation process. Here is a model that the tour guide used to show us how they determine weight distribution for each and every barrel.

Every building on the property is painted black with red shutters...it made for quite a presentation!

No detail is unthought of at the distillery...every shutter has the cut-out of a whiskey bottle!

When Cody and I went on our trip to Nashville last summer, we stayed at an amazing place called the Wyndham at Union Station. It is an old train station that was remodeled into a hotel and it was amazing! We could see it from quite a ways away:

Sac County Parade

I spent last Saturday at the Sac County Fair, and the first in a long line of events was the kid's parade. Here Sydney, entered in the "Princess Division" drives her tricycle-turned-pumpkin with a friend.

Will was a football player in the "Sports Division." He tried to hide behind his field goal pole!

Chase was a cowboy in the "Cowboy Division." I loved the long feathers on his hat!

Syndey and Chase's boots were too cute - and you know how much I love those cowboy boots!

Here's one reason that I am in love with black and whites - the first photo of the tractor is the original photo that I took...given that I don't have the greatest of cameras right now, the color of the tractor is pretty faded...the black and white not only disguises that, but gives a great hard, aged look that I love!

This is the wagon wheel merry-go-round that we played on as kids - I get dizzy just looking at it now!

I just love this little chair - one of the many mini pieces of furniture that grandma and grandpa Beaman have!
